Nursery Associate

Position Overview
Troy’s Tropics is seeking a dependable and motivated Nursery Associate to join our team. This role is a hands-on position that blends plant care, nursery operations, and customer service/sales. The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, has a strong work ethic, and takes pride in providing excellent customer experiences while maintaining high-quality plant material.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Care & Nursery Maintenance
- Water, fertilize, and maintain plant material across the nursery
- Monitor plant health and identify signs of stress, pests, or disease
- Assist with pruning, deadheading, and general plant upkeep
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of plant areas, tables, and walkways
- Help unload plant shipments and properly stage inventory
Operations & Inventory Support
- Assist with receiving, organizing, and stocking incoming plant material
- Label and price plants accurately
- Help pull plant material for customer orders and deliveries
- Maintain overall nursery presentation to ensure a clean and inviting environment
- Support other departments as needed (wholesale, delivery prep, etc.)
Customer Service & Sales
- Greet customers and provide a welcoming experience
- Assist customers in selecting plants and answering general plant care questions
- Offer recommendations based on customer needs (sun/shade, space, aesthetics, etc.)
- Promote Troy’s Tropics services (landscape design, installation, irrigation, etc.)
- Help customers load plant material into vehicles when needed
Register & Checkout Responsibilities
- Operate point-of-sale (POS) system for customer transactions
- Handle cash, credit card, and digital payments accurately
- Maintain a clean and organized checkout area
- Balance register and follow proper cash-handling procedures
- Previous register/POS experience is preferred
Qualifications
- Ability to work outdoors in Florida weather conditions
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs when needed
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail
- Friendly, positive attitude with a customer-first mindset
- Basic plant knowledge is a plus (but not required)
- Previous retail or register/POS experience preferred
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
Schedule & Availability
- Full-time and/or part-time positions available
- Weekend availability required
