This role works within a team of security professionals who help to provide a safe and secure environment for the museum’s collections, properties, facilities, visitors, and staff while delivering superior customer service.
WHAT YOU GET TO DO
- Monitor galleries, public spaces, and other areas of the museum to help ensure the safety and security of visitors, staff, the collection, and Walker assets.
- Conduct routine rounds and foot patrols throughout the facility, including accessing rooftop areas, to identify and address security, safety, and building-related concerns.
- Observe visitor and staff activity, promptly reporting and documenting suspicious behavior, safety hazards, security incidents, or damage to artwork.
- Collaborate with Registration, Curatorial, Maintenance, and other departments to understand exhibition-specific security needs and maintain a safe and secure environment.
- Monitor the physical condition of the museum and communicate maintenance, safety, or security concerns to the appropriate staff.
- Operate and monitor security systems, including surveillance cameras, access-control systems, and fire and burglar alarm systems.
- Maintain familiarity with emergency procedures and take an active leadership role during medical emergencies, fires, bomb threats, power failures, and other crisis situations.
- Staff the Control Center as assigned.
- Communicate relevant incidents, concerns, and operational updates across Security shifts.
- Conduct key and access-card audits and accurately document the results.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
WHAT WE NEED IN YOU
Minimum Requirements
- 2+ years’ related experience required.
- Professional demeanor and a strong customer service orientation are essential.
- Strong communication skills as well as the ability to work with diverse visitors/groups
- Excellent time management and decision-making skills.
- Ability to present a professional and courteous appearance to visitors and staff; exercise tact and diplomacy at all times and remain calm under pressure.
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility, initiative, strong work ethic, and the highest level of integrity and professionalism
- Ability to work collaboratively and cohesively with other Operations leadership and staff.
- Knowledge of computers, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel), preferred.
- Willing to become and maintain TSA certification
- CPR / First Aid Certified, or willing to obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification

- Saturday 10:00 PM - 8:30 AM
- Sunday 10:00 PM - 8:30 AM
- Monday 10:00 PM - 8:30 AM
- Tuesday 10:00 PM - 8:30 AM

- Wednesday 10:00 PM - 8:30 AM
- Thursday 10:00 PM - 8:30 AM
- Friday 10:00 PM - 8:30 AM
- Saturday 10:00 PM - 8:30 AM
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Frequently required to patrol indoor and outdoor areas, including walking long distances and navigating steep stairs, ramps, and uneven outdoor surfaces in varying weather conditions.
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout the Walker campus, including galleries, offices, loading dock areas, and the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.
- Must be able to remain stationary for extended periods while monitoring security systems, surveillance cameras, alarms, and access control systems in the Control Center.
- Requires the ability to hear and respond to alarms, radio communications, telephones, and visitor or staff inquiries.
- Frequently required to communicate verbally and in writing, including preparing incident reports and responding to emergency situations.
- Must be able to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds, including security equipment, packages, supplies, or barriers.
- May be required to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and climb stairs during patrols, inspections, or emergency response activities.
- Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and other seasonal weather conditions.
- Required weekends, holidays, special events, and extended shifts as operational needs dictate.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
This position is considered full-time, non-exempt. As a non-exempt position, it is eligible for overtime pay. The minimum compensation for this overnight role is $23.00 / hour. The Walker offers a wide range of benefits for both part-time and full-time employees.
This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.
