Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments including vital signs, physical examinations, and medical history reviews using advanced EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Administer medications and injections accurately following HIPAA guidelines and aseptic techniques, including IV infusions and medication management for complex cases like pain management and hospice care.
- Perform specialized procedures such as suturing, catheterization, tube feeding, dialysis, and ventilator management with precision and adherence to safety protocols.
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams on diagnostic evaluations, trauma medicine interventions, critical care procedures including ICU and Level I/II trauma center protocols, and emergency response procedures.
- Document all patient interactions thoroughly in electronic health records (EHR), ensuring compliance with NCQA standards and ICD coding requirements (ICD-9/ICD-10).
- Provide patient education on health coaching, discharge planning, medication administration, and post-acute care strategies tailored for diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, behavioral health patients, and individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Assist in triage assessments in urgent care or emergency room settings to prioritize patient needs efficiently while maintaining infection control standards.
Experience
- Proven experience working in hospital medicine or emergency medicine environments with Level I or Level II trauma center exposure highly preferred.
- Critical care experience including ICU or PICU settings demonstrating expertise in airway management, ventilator use, neonatal resuscitation procedures, and acute pain management.
- Skilled in using EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks for medical documentation and records management.
- Strong background in medical-surgical nursing with additional experience in cardiology (cardiac catheterization), infectious disease care, occupational health, or hospice & palliative medicine is advantageous.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in memory care units enhances your ability to deliver compassionate person-centered nursing care.
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures including specimen collection/processing and phlebotomy to support diagnostic evaluation efforts.
- Familiarity with nursing documentation standards such as MDS (Minimum Data Set) for long-term care residents and CPT coding for billing purposes is beneficial.
