Location: Pagosa Springs Medical Center – Pagosa Springs, Colorado
Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Medical Assistant / Scheduler to support our Oncology and Infusion Services team.
This hybrid role primarily functions as a Medical Assistant, providing direct patient care and clinical support, while also assisting with scheduling coordination for oncology and infusion services. The position plays a critical role in ensuring a seamless patient experience from intake through treatment by supporting both clinical and administrative workflows.
The ideal candidate is patient-focused, highly organized, and comfortable balancing both clinical responsibilities and scheduling tasks in a fast-paced specialty care environment.

Perform patient intake including vital signs, medical history, medications, and allergies

Assist providers with exams, treatments, and procedures

Administer medications and injections under supervision and within scope of practice

Perform clinical tasks such as EKGs, dressing changes, and other ordered procedures

Prepare and maintain exam and treatment areas, ensuring cleanliness and proper stocking

Provide patient education and reinforce provider instructions

Follow all infection prevention and patient safety protocols

Assist clinical staff with coordination of patient care and treatment flow

Support chart preparation, order verification, and follow-up care coordination

Collaborate with providers, nurses, and staff to ensure efficient patient throughput

Schedule oncology clinic and infusion appointments accurately and efficiently

Provide patients with appointment details, preparation instructions, and arrival times

Coordinate scheduling based on provider availability, treatment protocols, and equipment needs

Reschedule patients and manage scheduling changes as needed

Answer phone calls and respond to patient inquiries in a professional and timely manner

Communicate scheduling updates and coordinate follow-up appointments

Direct clinical questions to appropriate staff when necessary

Collect and verify patient demographic and insurance information

Assist with pre-certification and authorization processes

Ensure accurate documentation in the electronic health record

High school diploma or equivalent required
-
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred

Clinical experience as a Medical Assistant preferred

Experience in a specialty clinic, oncology, or infusion setting a plus

Scheduling or healthcare administrative experience preferred

Medical Assistant certification preferred but not required

Current AHA BLS (Heartsaver) certification required

Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and scheduling

Proficiency with electronic health record systems and basic computer programs

Combination of clinical duties and desk-based scheduling work

Base Compensation Range: $18.00 - $22.38 hourly, based on years of relevant experience. "Relevant experience" means relevant to the employee's responsibilities set forth in the job description as determined by the HR Manager, CAO, applicable department manager/director and applicable senior leader.
