Tri-County Help Center (TCHC) is looking for one full-time shelter advocate to work evenings Tuesday-Saturday 4pm-12am. Hourly pay is $15.00 per hour. TCHC is a private, non-profit agency located in Belmont, Harrison and Monroe counties. If you are interested in a feminist-grassroots, progressive agency that advocates for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking and are dedicated to helping people overcome mental health issues, contact us today!
What is a Shelter Advocate? Survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking enter TCHC's 24-hour shelter for a safe, confidential place to stay while advocates give them resources to help meet their needs. Families have a variety of backgrounds and beliefs, so it is important shelter advocates are respectful and non-judgmental. Unplanned situations happen, and shelter advocates need to have the ability to prioritize with good time management skills.
What do Shelter Advocates do? Shelter Advocates answer hotline calls. They also screen potential shelter residents and welcome new residents into shelter. Advocates help families with driving children to school, grocery shopping and other daily living activities. Shelter Advocates keep shelter clean and in order. Working at a non-profit organization also means you may be asked to help with administrative tasks to support the agency and offices.
Applicants must have a high school diploma and a clean criminal background check. Applicants must have a valid drivers license, reliable vehicle and insurance coverage. Within the first 2 weeks of employment, advocates will obtain CPR and First Aid certification. One-on-one training is offered for orientation and additional trainings are provided and on-going.
