Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of multiple licensed residential group homes serving youth with behavioral, emotional, and developmental needs. This role ensures that all homes remain safe, functional, and compliant with Washington Administrative Code (WAC), DCYF licensing requirements, and agency policies.
This is a full-time, benefit eligible position with an expected schedule of 30 hours per week, with the potential for additional hours based on organizational needs.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesFacility Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs across multiple residential homes including plumbing, electrical fixtures, carpentry, appliances, doors, locks, flooring, and general building systems, limited to work within the scope of general maintenance and not requiring a licensed professional.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests submitted by program staff and prioritize repairs that impact safety, security, or program operations.
- Troubleshoot maintenance issues and determine appropriate repair solutions or vendor referrals when specialized services are required.
- Maintain building interiors and exteriors to ensure facilities remain safe, functional, and well maintained.
- Repair or replace damaged fixtures, equipment, and furnishings as needed to maintain program standards.
Preventative Maintenance
- Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance to reduce equipment failure and extend the life of building systems and appliances.
- Inspect buildings, equipment, and grounds regularly to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, or potential hazards.
- Follow preventative maintenance schedules for major systems including HVAC, appliances, plumbing, lighting, and safety equipment.
- Ensure fire safety systems, smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and emergency lighting are functional and maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure facilities remain compliant with applicable safety regulations, licensing standards, and agency policies.
- Assist leadership in preparing facilities for licensing inspections, safety audits, and regulatory reviews.
- Identify and address facility issues that could impact safety, youth supervision, or regulatory compliance.
- Maintain safe work practices and follow all safety procedures when completing repairs or maintenance tasks.
Vendor Coordination & Supplies
- Coordinate with approved vendors or contractors when specialized repairs or inspections are required.
- Assist with scheduling vendor services such as HVAC servicing, pest control, fire system inspections, and other facility-related services.
- Maintain appropriate inventory of maintenance tools, supplies, and commonly used replacement parts.
- Communicate with leadership regarding repair costs, supply needs, and facility improvement recommendations.
Documentation & Communication
- Maintain records of completed maintenance tasks, repairs, inspections, and preventative maintenance activities.
- Communicate clearly with program managers and staff regarding maintenance needs, repair timelines, and completed work.
- Provide updates to leadership regarding facility concerns, repair priorities, and potential infrastructure improvements.
Additional Job Duties
- Performs additional duties as assigned to support program operations, organizational goals, and special projects or initiatives.
- Works flexible hours as required by the position, including occasional evenings, weekends, and emergency response as needed to address urgent facility concerns.
- Collaborates and communicates effectively with program staff, leadership, and vendors to ensure timely and effective maintenance support.
- Participates in required meetings, training, safety briefings, and emergency preparedness activities.
- Establishes and maintains a culture of safety and compliance by adhering to organizational policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory standards.
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information related to youth, staff, and program operations.
- Follows all safety, hygiene, and infection control protocols while performing maintenance duties.
- Responds to urgent or emergent facility situations including water leaks, power outages, safety hazards, or other issues impacting program operations.
- Supports and complies with the implementation of new or revised policies, procedures, and facility standards as directed.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Two years of experience in building maintenance, facilities maintenance, construction, or related field.
- Demonstrated ability to perform general repairs including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and appliance maintenance.
- Valid state issued driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass background checks as required by DCYF.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in residential care, healthcare, or multi-site environments
- Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems
- Familiarity with regulatory or licensing compliance
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs
- Ability to perform physical tasks (climbing, kneeling, etc.)
- Ability to travel between multiple sites
- Ability to respond to urgent maintenance issues as needed
Work Environment
This position operates within residential group homes serving youth. Candidates must be able to work safely in environments where youth may exhibit behavioral challenges, while maintaining professionalism and adherence to safety protocols.
Pay: $29.00 - $32.00 per hour
