Duties
- Prepare and submit accurate medical claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Review medical records to verify proper documentation and coding accuracy, including DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding.
- Process medical collections efficiently by following up on unpaid or denied claims with insurance companies and patients.
- Maintain detailed records of billing activities, claim statuses, and payment histories for audit readiness.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses or procedures that require precise medical terminology and coding adjustments.
- Stay updated on changes in medical billing regulations, coding guidelines, and insurance policies to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Assist in resolving discrepancies related to medical records or billing errors promptly to facilitate timely reimbursements.
Experience
- Prior experience in a medical office setting with a focus on billing, coding, or collections is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and the use of EMR/EHR systems.
- Familiarity with DRG classifications, CPT coding procedures, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding standards, and ICD coding practices.
- Proven ability to handle medical collections effectively while maintaining excellent communication skills with patients and insurance providers.
- Understanding of healthcare regulations related to medical billing and coding processes is essential for success in this role.
