A 130+ bed community hospital in Fredericksburg is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist to join its respiratory care team. This hospital provides a wide range of services including a 24-hour emergency department, critical care services, obstetrics and neonatal care, and advanced-technology operating rooms supporting both inpatient and outpatient procedures.
This role works across emergency, critical care, and general acute care settings, providing comprehensive respiratory support to patients of all ages. The Respiratory Therapist performs detailed patient assessments, including evaluation of breath sounds, airway status, and overall respiratory function to determine appropriate interventions.
Responsibilities include delivering oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, airway clearance techniques, and managing both invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation. The therapist also responds to emergent changes in patient condition, assists with artificial airway placement, and supports stabilization of newborns during deliveries when needed.
In addition, this position involves educating patients and families, collaborating closely with physicians and nursing staff, and serving as a clinical resource within the care team. The therapist is also responsible for maintaining respiratory equipment, ensuring proper setup and cleaning, performing preventive maintenance, and safely transporting ventilated patients in accordance with infection control protocols.
Qualifications:
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP-State) licensure required
Basic Life Support (BLS) or equivalent certification required within 30 days of hire (additional onboarding requirements may apply)
