Hurst Creek Municipal Utility District (MUD) is seeking a licensed Operator “C” or higher to work as a Water/Wastewater Utilities Operator. A non-licensed Operator in Training may be considered for highly motivated individuals. This position will include learning and maintaining a 3 MGD Surface Water Plant, 0.5 MGD Wastewater Plant, 50 MG effluent system for irrigation, TCEQ 210 water reuse, Wastewater Collection, and Water Distribution System. The applicant must be able to interact with the public in a professional manner to promote a positive reflection for the utility district. This position requires a minimum “C” Water and/or Wastewater License, a good driving record, the ability to be on-call 24/7 and able to work rotating shifts. Must be able to work with minimum direct supervision, work alone or with other members of the treatment crew in performing required daily tasks. Will also include interfacing with other Utility Department personnel, City administrators, other City departments and the public.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Maintain plant records, both operational and regulatory.
· Collect and perform the required operational laboratory tests.
· Perform routine inspections of treatment facilities, monitor pumps, tanks, valves, appurtenances, chemicals, clarifiers, and filters (visually and with computer SCADA system) and adjust equipment and chemicals to maintain specified operating conditions.
· Perform daily reads on various meters.
· Inspect, operate, and perform routine maintenance on water and wastewater treatment facilities and grounds.
· Receive chemical shipments and maintain an inventory of treatment chemicals.
· Perform control room duties; monitor water distribution and pump system using a computerized SCADA system
· Perform daily check of water and wastewater treatment facility during off hours.
· Assist line maintenance with emergency repair.
· Maintain plant cleanliness.
· Other duties as assigned.
Ability to:
· Climb stairs & ladders.
· Lift up to 50 lbs. repetitively
· Perform physically demanding work, occasionally at heights and with adverse conditions.
· Enter and work in a confined space.
· Work overtime when needed.
· Demonstrate mathematic skills.
· Work both inside and outside.
· Bend/stoop, squat/crouch, climb, kneel, and twist.
· Travel up and down stairs, and into crawl spaces.
· Communicate verbally and in writing with all skill sets.
· Understand water chemistry.
· Utilize PC based tools (spreadsheets, databases, and word processing).
· Acquire data and maintain records.
Qualifications/Requirements:
· Class “C” Water or Wastewater License.
· Valid Class “C” Texas Driver License.
· Must possess knowledge of various chemicals found in water and wastewater treatment plants.
· Must pass State of Texas Criminal History report and DPS background check.
Education/Experience/Certification Qualifications:
· High school diploma or GED.
· Two years of experience in water and/or wastewater operations.
· Class “C” Water/Wastewater License must be obtained within one (1) year of employment.
Working Conditions:
May be exposed to extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals and/or dangerous machinery depending on the needs of the District. Employees in this position must be able to work on-call and respond to emergencies beyond the normal 40-hour work week. Work is performed in water and wastewater treatment plants with some exposure to dust, dirt, heat, fumes, contaminants, cold, noise, moisture, and other elements. Work may also need to be performed in confined spaces or at heights exceeding six (6) feet.
