Serves as a senior-level professional within the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) and is responsible for coordinating and administering complex post-award financial activities for sponsored projects, including federal, state, local, foundation, and other sponsored awards. This role supports the financial stewardship, compliance, reporting, and operational integrity of sponsored programs throughout the post-award lifecycle.
Provides advanced financial analysis, guidance, and project-based leadership related to sponsored awards administration; collaborates with principal investigators, project directors, department administrators, finance staff, and OSP colleagues; and helps ensure compliance with sponsor requirements, institutional policies, and applicable regulations. Does not have direct supervisory responsibility for staff.
Must possess strong accounting knowledge, oral and written communication skills, interpersonal and collaborative leadership skills, the ability to anticipate, identify, and resolve complex financial issues, and project management and process improvement capabilities with attention to quality, compliance, and cost stewardship. Advanced technical computer skills, including the ability to navigate complex electronic systems, are required.
Expected to maintain a strong customer-service orientation and respond to stakeholder needs in a timely, professional, and solutions-focused manner..
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Formal Education Required:
a. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, business, healthcare administration, or a related field with at least three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in post-award grants administration, sponsored programs accounting, finance, or business operations; or
b. Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, business, healthcare administration, or a related field, with at least two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience in post-award grants administration, sponsored programs accounting, finance, or business operations.
2. Experience & Training Required:
a. Working knowledge of federal grant regulations and sponsor requirements, including 2 CFR Part 200/300 (Uniform Guidance) and related post-award compliance expectations.
b. Experience with financial management, invoicing, reporting, reconciliations, closeout, and post-award problem resolution.
c. Experience using enterprise financial systems, grants management systems, or ERP platforms or equivalent.
d. Excellent analytical, organizational, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
e. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects and deadlines simultaneously with a high degree of accuracy and professionalism.
f. Strong Microsoft Excel and general technical proficiency with complex systems and reporting tools.
Preferred Qualifications
a. Strong experience administering federal and non-federal sponsored awards in a hospital, academic medical center, university, research institute, or similarly complex environment.
b. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or other relevant financial certification.
c. Experience in a hospital or healthcare-based Office of Sponsored Programs.
d. Experience supporting Single Audit or other sponsored award audit activity, including documentation support and corrective action follow-up.
e. Experience with sponsored programs process improvement, internal control development, policy writing or system implementation initiatives .
f. Experience in sponsored programs, grants accounting, or post-award administration in a academic or healthcare environment.
3. Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
a. Advanced knowledge of sponsored project post-award administration principles and practices.
b. Strong understanding of grant accounting, internal controls, compliance, and audit readiness.
c. Ability to interpret award documents, regulations, sponsor guidelines, and institutional policies.
d. Ability to identify risk, escalate issues appropriately, and recommend practical solutions.
e. Strong project coordination and process improvement skills.
f. Ability to work collaboratively across departments and functions without direct supervisory authority.
g. Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
h. Strong customer-service orientation and commitment to responsiveness and professionalism.
i. Ability to maintain strong working relationships with the following stakeholders:
i. Office of Sponsored Programs leadership and Research & Innovation staff
ii. Principal Investigators and Project Directors
iii. Department business administrators and finance personnel
iv. Payroll, reimbursement, accounting, accounts payable, and compliance teams
v. Internal and external auditors
j. Sponsor representatives and pass-through entities, as applicable. Ensure productivity in a hybrid work environment, and attend onsite meetings as needed to ensure success of the applicable projects.
k. Ability to work at a computer for extended periods and manage multiple deadlines in a professional office environment.
l. May require occasional additional hours during peak reporting, audit, or closeout periods.
4. Level of Physical Demands:

The salary range on this job posting/advertising is base salary exclusive of any bonuses or differentials. Many factors, such as years of relevant experience and geographical location are considered when determining the starting rate of pay. We believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members when determining offers. Please keep in mind that the range that is listed is the full base salary range. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical.
