Position Summary
The City of Bridgeport Bridge Sports Complex is accepting applications for the position of Sports Manager. This role is responsible for planning, developing, and overseeing all sports programming at the Bridgeport Sports Complex, including leagues, camps, tournaments, and special events. The Sports Manager plays a key role in community engagement, revenue generation, staff supervision, and the overall success of the City’s sports programming.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, develop, and execute court and field sports programs, leagues, camps, tournaments, and special events
- Track program performance, budgets, and forecast future activities
- Develop and manage program budgets and sales initiatives
- Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate coaches and program staff
- Serve as Manager on Duty as assigned
- Maintain and manage facility schedules
- Generate program revenue through networking, partnerships, and strategic outreach
- Track and report weekly sales totals
- Assist with event setup, execution, and coordination as needed
- Collaborate with other departments during outside or special events
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
- Experience coaching or teaching youth and adult sports (field or court sports)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in recreation, sports management, or a related field
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of budgeting, purchasing, personnel policies, and applicable regulations
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to motivate, train, and supervise staff
- Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, and organizational skills
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms
- Ability to write reports, policies, and grants related to programming
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Requires standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs occasionally), and event-related physical activity
- Use of computers and standard office equipment required
