Interventional Radiology (IR) is a medical specialty where various minimally invasive procedures are performed using medical imaging guidance such as fluoroscopy, CT, or ultrasound. These procedures might be for biopsy, diagnosis, or intervention. TH HEB supports a hybrid IR/OR suite and works directly with our Radiology care unit.
The Interventional Radiology (IR) technologist supports a wide range of complex, specialized procedures, including the operation of fluoroscopy, computed tomography (CT), laser, and ultrasound equipment during vascular and interventional cases. Responsibilities include accurately and safely positioning patients to ensure optimal image quality, maintaining strict sterile technique, and performing post-processing of images obtained during procedures. This role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment, and a high level of independence in managing a dynamic workload.
Duties for this position include, but are not limited to, ensuring radiation safety, providing patient education, and assisting with patient care within the scope of practice. Additional responsibilities include preparing and maintaining sterile supply trays, assisting with the handling and passing of guidewires, catheters, and other sterile instruments during procedures, as well as managing inventory and coordinating schedules.
