Shack Shine is a home services company serving residential customers across the northern suburbs. We wash windows, clean gutters, pressure wash, and install custom Christmas lights. Most of our customers come back year after year — and tell their neighbors — because of how we treat them. That's the business.
We're hiring now, and right now the work is mostly Christmas lights — designing and installing custom light displays on homes heading into the holidays. It's our busiest, best season. If you're the kind of person we're looking for, you'll start on lights and stay on year-round for the rest of what we do.
What Your Day Looks Like
Show up in the morning, load the truck with your crew, and hit the road. Heading into the holidays, most of your day is Christmas lights — running lights along rooflines, wrapping trees, and making each home look great. It's ladder work, it's outdoors, and this time of year it's hot then cold. The rest of the year the work shifts to washing windows, cleaning gutters, and pressure washing. Every job — lights or otherwise — starts and ends with a real conversation with the homeowner: walking the property, listening, and showing them what you did. The work in between is honest physical work outdoors. No two days are identical.
What You'll Earn
Base starts at $24/hr. With weekly bonuses, commissions, and tips, technicians earn well during our busy stretches. This is year-round work — hours are heaviest spring through fall (40–50 hour weeks), with a couple of slower stretches in late winter and late summer (20–30 hour weeks).
Full-time employees earn over $60K annually with bonus and tips.

What Actually Matters to Us
You make customers feel taken care of. When you finish a job, the homeowner should feel like they got more than they paid for — not because you gave anything away, but because you were thorough, friendly, and honest with them. This is the most important part of the job.
You show up. Every day, on time. No exceptions — and heading into our busy season, the whole crew is counting on you.
You're comfortable working outdoors. Whatever weather shows up — including the cold. Right now that's hanging lights on ladders in winter weather, so if that's a dealbreaker, this isn't the job.
You figure things out. Without someone standing over you.
You're coachable. When someone shows you a better way, you listen.
That's it. We don't care if you've never touched a ladder or hung a strand of lights. We've built some of our best technicians from guys who came from retail, warehouses, restaurants — you name it. The skills can be taught. The character can't.

Strong technicians move into Lead Tech roles running their own crew, with higher pay and guaranteed hours. From there, top performers earn the opportunity to run their own truck independently — more autonomy, more pay, and full ownership of your route. This isn't a dead-end gig — it's as much of a career as you want to make it.
This Isn't for Everyone
If you struggle with early mornings, can't handle working outdoors in the cold, need someone telling you what to do every five minutes, can't be patient with customers when something goes sideways, or just want a paycheck with no accountability — save us both the time.
