About the Role
Takt Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Planner to support the development and distribution of mechanical work instructions and engineering data for a maritime production facility. This role bridges the gap between engineering design and shop execution by ensuring drawings, models, and specifications are accurately converted into structured digital workflows that guide the build process.
The position focuses on creating and controlling the flow of mechanical documentation, ensuring each production step is executed in sequence with defined quality requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with mechanical or manufacturing experience who enjoys working with CAD data, interpreting engineering drawings, and contributing to large-scale maritime production systems.
Job Responsibilities
- Convert mechanical drawings and 3D CAD models (NX, SolidWorks, or equivalent) into structured work instructions aligned with maritime build requirements.
- Support the creation of legacy 2D drawings converting them to modern 3D models where required.
- Distribute production drawings, work instructions, and technical specifications electronically to shop-floor workstations.
- Configure and maintain system controls to ensure work steps follow proper sequence and pass required quality checkpoints.
- Support the direct transfer of engineering data into production systems and ensure consistency across versions and revisions.
- Collaborate with engineers, planners, and production teams to validate technical documentation and ensure accuracy.
- Track and update documentation to reflect engineering changes and build progress.
- Assist with identifying obsolete components and supporting documentation updates for modern equivalents when required.
- Coach and mentor other ME Planners on work instruction development, CAD data interpretation, and documentation standards.
- Develop and share repeatable methods, templates, and examples that raise the quality and consistency of planning output across the team.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical/maintenance planning or manufacturing engineering roles.
- Proficiency reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and specifications.
- Experience using NX or SolidWorks to extract, interpret and manage design data.
- Working experience with Siemens Teamcenter or similar PLM systems for managing engineering data and revisions.
- Understanding of production workflows, build sequencing, and documentation control.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain data integrity across revisions and systems.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and legally authorized to work as a 1099 contractor.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in maritime, shipbuilding, defense, aerospace, or other large-scale mechanical production environments.
- Exposure to configuration management, change control, and traceability requirements in regulated environments.
- Experience modernizing or migrating legacy engineering data into digital or model-based systems.
- Familiarity with manufacturing execution systems, ERP, or digital manufacturing environments.
- Experience developing training materials, SOPs, or onboarding documentation for technical teams.
