Location: Located just outside of Richmond, VA
Compensation: $110,000 – $140,000 annually
Setting: Residential Behavioral Health Facility
We are seeking an experienced Clinical Director to lead the clinical operations of a residential behavioral health and substance use treatment facility. This individual will provide leadership, supervision, and oversight of the clinical team while ensuring high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. The Clinical Director will collaborate closely with executive leadership and medical staff to maintain a therapeutic environment that supports positive client outcomes.
- Provide leadership, supervision, and mentoring to licensed clinicians and clinical support staff.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the clinical department.
- Ensure compliance with all state, federal, accreditation, HIPAA, and payer regulations.
- Develop, implement, and monitor clinical programming and treatment services.
- Maintain oversight of documentation quality, treatment planning, chart audits, and clinical best practices.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and performance monitoring.
- Collaborate with the Medical Director and Executive Leadership on program development and clinical operations.
- Supervise clinical staffing, scheduling, performance evaluations, coaching, and professional development.
- Carry a limited clinical caseload as needed while providing guidance on complex clinical cases.
- Facilitate treatment team meetings and ensure continuity of care across disciplines.
- Monitor clinical outcomes, key performance indicators, and department performance.
- Assist with utilization review, insurance authorizations, and peer-to-peer reviews when necessary.
- Participate in community outreach, professional networking, and program representation as needed.
- Provide crisis intervention and clinical consultation to staff.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for clinical emergencies.
- Master's degree or higher in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field.
- Current unrestricted Virginia license as an LPC, LCSW, Psychologist, or other independently licensed behavioral health professional.
- Minimum of 3 years of Clinical Director or comparable leadership experience within a residential behavioral health or substance use treatment setting.
- Strong knowledge of behavioral health regulations, accreditation standards, and clinical best practices.
- Experience supervising multidisciplinary clinical teams.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to successfully complete background screening and drug testing.
- Experience treating substance use disorders within a residential treatment environment.
- Experience with Joint Commission accreditation and quality improvement initiatives.
- Knowledge of commercial insurance authorization and utilization management processes.
