Bayonne Economic Opportunity Foundation (BEOF) operates the Bayonne Head Start program, providing comprehensive early childhood education and family support services to promote school readiness for children from low-income families in our community.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Bayonne Head Start is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to serve as School Nurse Manager. This role provides comprehensive health services to children and families enrolled in the Head Start program, ensuring compliance with Head Start Performance Standards while promoting overall health, safety, and wellness within the school community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor and maintain student health records to ensure compliance with physical, immunization, and oral health requirements
- Assess children’s health needs, including allergies and chronic conditions, and provide health education to parents and staff
- Complete referrals for medical, dental, and nutritional concerns and coordinate follow-up services
- Provide medical care to children who are ill or injured during program hours
- Conduct required health screenings and assessments in accordance with Head Start regulations
- Collaborate with families to develop and implement individualized health plans
- Coordinate care with community healthcare providers and agencies
- Implement and monitor health and safety protocols across the program
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and Health Advisory Committee meetings
- Provide health-related training and education to parents and staff
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Certification
- Current State of New Jersey Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience preferred, ideally in a preschool or early childhood setting
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of childcare health requirements and state/federal regulations
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Proficiency in electronic health record systems
- Cultural sensitivity and responsiveness to diverse populations
Transportation
- Valid New Jersey driver’s license and daily access to a vehicle
REQUIREMENTS
- Successful completion of comprehensive background checks, including fingerprinting and sex offender registry clearance
- Passing all required physical health screenings
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive health information
- Current First Aid certification
SALARY
$58,000 – $63,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications
