Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Ocean Import Specialist to join our dynamic logistics team. In this role, you will oversee the end-to-end process of importing goods via ocean freight, ensuring seamless coordination between carriers, customs authorities, and clients. Your expertise in supply chain management, transportation planning, and customer relationship management will be essential to facilitate efficient import operations, optimize costs, and maintain exceptional service standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong negotiation skills, a comprehensive understanding of logistics systems, and a proactive approach to problem-solving within a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage the entire ocean import process from booking to delivery, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations including FDA regulations where applicable.
- Coordinate with carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and clients to facilitate smooth transportation and clearance of shipments.
- Utilize transportation management systems (TMS), EDI (Electronic Data Interchange), and CRM software to track shipments, update statuses, and maintain accurate data entry.
- Negotiate rates and contracts with carriers and 3PL providers to optimize transportation costs while maintaining service quality.
- Prepare and review shipping documentation such as bills of lading, commercial invoices, and customs declarations.
- Monitor shipment progress through transportation management systems (TMS) and dispatching tools; resolve any issues that arise during transit or clearance.
- Develop and maintain strong customer relationships through effective account management and inside sales efforts.
- Support lead generation initiatives by identifying new business opportunities in logistics sales and expanding existing client accounts.
- Collaborate with sales teams on pricing strategies, contract negotiations, and logistics solutions tailored to client needs.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations including FDA standards for imported goods; manage documentation for customs clearance.
- Assist in freight cost analysis, pricing strategies, and contract renewals to maximize profitability.
Skills
- Proven experience in supply chain management with a focus on ocean import operations.
- Strong knowledge of transportation management systems (TMS), EDI protocols, AS400 platforms, and CRM software.
- Expertise in logistics sales, freight forwarding, 3PL services, NVOCC operations, and carrier sales.
- Excellent negotiation skills combined with effective account management capabilities.
- Familiarity with supply chain processes including transportation planning, dispatching, data entry, and freight documentation.
- Understanding of FDA regulations related to imported goods; ability to ensure compliance throughout the import process.
- Proficiency in pricing strategies, contract negotiations, and lead generation techniques within the logistics industry.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently while maintaining attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
