Code Enforcement/Zoning Officer, , Full-time with benefits.Starting at $22.52/Hour. Location; Blendon Township, 6350 S. Hempstead Rd. Westerville, Ohio
Key Responsibilities: (may not include all job duties performed)
- Researches property ownership and zoning background.
- Responds to public inquiries and nuisance abatement complaints and answers questions related to Township code enforcement activities by researching, interpreting, and explaining policies and regulations; analyze, recommend, and communicate appropriate solutions to problems; address customer complaints and schedule site visits.
- Conducts field investigations and property inspections for possible violations of nuisance, zoning, junk and debris, high grass, abandoned/inoperative vehicles, housing, and related ordinances.
- Photographs any evidence; contacts responsible persons, landlords, or tenants; conducts follow-up investigations to ensure remedial action is taken; develops and maintains accurate case files.
- Issues warnings and/or abatements for violations of Township Codes relating to nuisance, zoning, junk and debris, high grass, housing deficiencies, and abandoned/inoperative vehicles.
- Provides various information and statistics in written reports for use by Township Administrator, elected and appointed officials involved in code enforcement matters.
- Follows regulations and requirements for record-keeping, report writing, and court evidence documentation.
- Works closely with homeowners, landlords, tenants, businesses, and community groups to grow strong neighborhoods through public relations, education, and code enforcement.
- Coordinates inspections and dispositions of cases with the Township Administrator.
- Anything else the Township Administrator deems necessary.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States of America.
- Ability to use basic principles and practices to enforce various laws, ordinances, and codes.
- Possession of a current valid Ohio driver's license and a satisfactory driving record as determined by the Township required at the time of appointment.
- Equivalent to completion of a high school diploma.
- Zero (0) to two (2) years of recent full-time work experience performing similar duties to Code Enforcement.
- Ability to exercise sound independent judgment and discretion within established guidelines.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing courteously, effectively, and productively.
- Ability to operate computers and various software and database applications and works independently in the absence of supervision.
