A funeral ambassador, also called a funeral attendant, is responsible for supporting the funeral director by assisting with the preparation and execution of funeral services, including tasks like transporting the deceased, preparing the funeral home for visitations, greeting guests, directing mourners, arranging floral arrangements, and providing emotional support to bereaved families, all while maintaining a respectful and professional demeanor throughout the process. Key responsibilities of a funeral assistant may include:
- Preparing the funeral home: Setting up the visitation room, arranging caskets, placing floral arrangements, and ensuring the space is ready for guests.
- Transporting the deceased: Transferring the body from the place of death to the funeral home.
- Assisting with body preparation: Basic preparation of the deceased under the supervision of a licensed funeral director.
- Greeting and directing guests: Welcoming families and friends of the deceased, guiding them to the visitation room, and answering questions.
- Supporting families: Offering emotional support and guidance to grieving families during the planning process and funeral service.
- Administrative tasks: Maintaining records, filing paperwork, and coordinating with vendors.
- Funeral procession management: Assisting with the procession to the cemetery, including directing vehicles and managing parking.
- Casket handling: Placing the casket in the viewing area, closing the casket during the service, and assisting with the loading and unloading process.
- Cremation assistance: Supporting the cremation process and handling cremated remains.
