Duties
- Supervise daily pharmacy operations, including medication dispensing, inventory management, and staff coordination to ensure efficient workflow.
- Lead and manage pharmacy teams, including pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Oversee patient assessments, medication therapy reviews, and clinical interventions to optimize patient outcomes across various settings such as community, LTC (Long-Term Care), or hospital environments.
- Ensure compliance with all federal and state pharmacy laws, drug regulation policies, USP 797 standards for sterile compounding, HIPAA confidentiality policies, and healthcare regulations.
- Provide expert guidance on pharmaceutical regulatory compliance, drug regulation updates, and medical management protocols.
- Conduct patient communication activities including counseling on medication administration, immunizations, pain management options, and health education.
- Utilize Pharmacy Information Systems (PIS), Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, and EMR systems to document patient care activities accurately.
- Maintain high standards of aseptic technique during compounding medications and IV infusions while adhering to USP 797 guidelines.
- Oversee inventory management processes to ensure proper stock levels of pharmaceuticals while minimizing waste.
- Support clinical initiatives such as immunizations administration, IV insertion/infusion procedures, and acute care interventions in collaboration with healthcare teams.
- Ensure pharmacy operations align with practicing as a pharmacist in diverse settings including community pharmacies or hospital units with a focus on patient safety and service quality.
Requirements
- Valid pharmacist license in good standing with current state pharmacy board requirements.
- Proven experience in clinical pharmacy practice with critical care experience preferred; hospital or acute care experience is highly valued.
- Demonstrated leadership skills managing pharmacy teams within a fast-paced environment.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pharmacology principles, and medical terminology relevant to pharmacy practice.
- Experience with pharmacy software systems including PIS, EMR/EHR systems; proficiency in pharmaceutical regulatory compliance is essential.
- Hands-on experience with compounding medications using aseptic techniques; familiarity with USP 797 standards is preferred.
- Ability to perform patient assessments accurately and provide comprehensive medication counseling including immunizations and pain management strategies.
- Knowledge of drug regulation laws at federal and state levels; understanding of HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification required; additional certifications such as immunizations or IV infusion training are advantageous.
- Excellent customer service skills with a focus on client communication; ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
