If you're an experienced Fire Alarm Technician, Fire Alarm Service Technician, Fire Protection Technician, Fire Alarm Inspector, or Life Safety Technician, we'd like to speak with you.
Join Relay Fire & Safety and help us make the world a safer place. install, wire, troubleshoot, program, and bring fire alarm systems online the right way, not someone who just changes devices and calls it a day. If you’ve worked with Edwards / EST systems, even better. That is a big plus for us.
This is a strong opportunity for a technician who wants to join a growing company where they can have real impact, work on meaningful projects, and be part of a team that values technical ability, accountability, and professionalism. If you’re currently in a stable spot but frustrated by limited growth, stale leadership, lack of support, or feeling like just another body in a truck, this may be the move that makes sense.
Why This Role Stands Out
We know experienced fire alarm installers are hard to find. The good ones usually aren’t scrolling job boards all day — they’re busy, they’re loyal to their teams, and they’re not leaving for a lateral move with a shinier logo and the same nonsense.
So here’s the pitch without the corporate glitter cannon:
- We’re looking for a real installer, not a parts changer
- You’ll work on installation, programming, commissioning, and project closeout, not just one tiny slice of the job
- EST / Edwards experience is highly valued
- You’ll join a growing company where strong technicians matter and are visible
- Opportunity to help lead jobs, support junior team members, and be a go-to technical resource
- Backing of an established fire & life safety company that is continuing to invest and grow
Position Overview
The Fire Alarm Installation Technician is responsible for installing, wiring, programming, testing, troubleshooting, and closing out fire alarm systems for service and project work. This role supports field installation activities from device and panel install through final inspections and project turnover, while ensuring systems are code-compliant, operational, and professionally executed.
This position is ideal for a technician who can work independently, handle field decision-making, and take ownership of the finished product — especially someone with experience in EST / Edwards fire alarm systems, tenant fit-outs, service projects, and final AHJ closeout.
What You’ll Do
- Install, wire, terminate, and test fire alarm systems in commercial and industrial environments
- Pull wire and complete device, panel, and component installation based on project drawings, layout, and scope
- Mount and install fire alarm control panels, initiating devices, notification devices, relays, modules, and associated equipment
- Program and configure fire alarm systems to ensure proper operation and code compliance
- Perform troubleshooting, diagnostic work, and repair on fire alarm systems in the field
- Support or lead commissioning and startup activities for fire alarm installations
- Coordinate final inspections and project closeouts with local fire departments / AHJs
- Complete required project documentation including test reports, closeout paperwork, compliance forms, and final sign-off documentation
- Support tenant fit-outs, small projects, and Parts & Smarts / upgrade work
- Provide technical guidance and field support to less experienced team members when needed
- Work closely with internal teams and customers to ensure projects are completed safely, accurately, and on time
What We’re Looking ForRequired / Strongly Preferred Experience
- 5+ years of experience in the fire alarm industry with hands-on installation experience
- Strong experience with fire alarm wiring, device installation, panel work, programming, startup, and troubleshooting
- Ability to independently manage field installation work and drive projects toward completion
- Strong understanding of fire alarm installation standards, jobsite safety, and project closeout requirements
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with customers, inspectors, project teams, and internal operations staff
Huge Plus / Target Background
- Hands-on experience with Edwards / EST fire alarm systems
- EST-3 programming / installation experience
- EST-4 experience strongly preferred
- Experience with commissioning, tenant fit-outs, upgrades, retrofits, and small projects
- Ability to mentor junior technicians and act as a technical resource in the field
Licenses / Certifications
- Massachusetts electrical license preferred
- (Class D strongly preferred; higher licensing levels welcomed depending on background and scope)
- NICET Fire Alarm Systems Level II or above is a plus
- Manufacturer certifications or platform-specific programming experience are a plusWho Will Be a Great Fit
This role is a fit for someone who:
- Knows the fire alarm world and takes pride in clean, code-compliant installations
- Can troubleshoot in the field without melting down because a panel threw one attitude-filled trouble signal
- Wants more ownership, more visibility, and more room to grow than they’re getting today
- Has worked with EST / Edwards systems or wants to be in an environment where that experience is actually valued
- Likes working with a team but doesn’t need to be babysat to get a job done right
