Job Summary
The President & CEO serves as the strategic leader of Visit Mountaineer Country Convention & Visitors Bureau, guiding the organization’s vision, operations, and long-term growth. This role works closely with the Board of Directors, staff, tourism partners, municipalities, and community stakeholders to strengthen the region’s visitor economy. The President & CEO is responsible for organizational leadership, financial stewardship, team development, strategic planning, partnership cultivation, and representing Visit Mountaineer Country as the face of the organization throughout North Central West Virginia and beyond.
Duties
- Establishing credibility throughout the organization and with the Board as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges
- Providing leadership and management to ensure that the mission and core values of Visit Mountaineer Country Convention and Visitors Bureau are put into practice
- Driving Visit Mountaineer Country Convention and Visitors Bureau to achieve and surpass sales, profitability, cash flow, and business goals and objectives
- Spearheading the development, communication, and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes
- Collaborating with the Executive Management Team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate the growth objectives of Visit Mountaineer Country Convention and Visitors Bureau
- Motivating and leading a high-performance management team; attracting, recruiting, and retaining required members of the executive team not currently in place; providing mentoring as a cornerstone to the management career development program
- Developing, establishing, and promoting positive strategic relations through direct contact with every client and partner; representing Visit Mountaineer Country Convention and Visitors Bureau with clients, business partners, investors, and the general public
- Assisting, as required, in raising additional capital at appropriate valuations to enable the Visit Mountaineer Country Convention and Visitors Bureau to meet sales, growth, and market share objectives
- Fostering a success-oriented, accountable environment within Visit Mountaineer Country Convention and Visitors Bureau
- Managing subordinate business unit supervisor(s) who supervise employee(s); holding responsibility for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units
- Supervising directly non-supervisory employees; carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws
- Maintaining responsibility in the areas of 1) interviewing, hiring and training employees, 2) planning, assigning and directing work, 3) appraising performance, 4) rewarding and disciplining employees, and 5) addressing complaints and resolving problems
Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in business or related field (Master’s Degree preferred)
- 3 to 5 years of progressive experience as CEO or strong experience as COO/VP-level in managing one or more major business functions (e.g., operations, business development, etc.)
- Interpersonal, persuasion, and negotiation skills to deal with internal and external business relations
- Management skills to successfully perform the planning, directing, reporting, and administrative responsibilities of this position
- Comprehensive knowledge of industry and industry-related trends and forecasts
- Analytical Skills: Synthesize complex or diverse information
- Problem Solving: Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner as well as skillfully gather and analyze information
- Communication: Speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, demonstrate group presentation skills, and conduct productive meetings
