Assesses, develops a plan of therapy, and provides speech therapy services. Participates in case conferences and meetings as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide speech therapy services under the direction of a physician.

Instruct, prepare, and reassure patient of treatment being performed.

Perform initial evaluation and assessment.

Assist physician in evaluating patients for speech or swallowing evaluations.

Develop plan of therapy based on results of diagnostic procedures, diagnosis, and prognosis per physician orders.

Consult with patient when developing a plan of care.
-
Use appropriate treatment modalities and procedures to accomplish therapy goals.

Instruct patients/families in appropriate techniques and procedures to meet therapy goals.

Revise and update plan of care as needed and mandated by regulations.

Monitor and ensure patient safety during treatments.

Transport patients to and from department in a safe manner.

Provide care appropriate for the patients served based on demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.

Assess and interpret data on the patient’s status to identify patients’ requirements relative to their age specific needs and provide care needed as stipulated in departmental policy.

Assist with nursing home physical therapy needs as needed.

Maintain records associated with patient's treatments.

Record treatment results and progress notes accurately and legibly in patient charts.

Communicate information to the director, registered nurse, and physician on patient’s treatment progress as directed.

Assist in maintaining logs, charge tickets, and reports.

Maintain stock levels of supplies and required equipment.

Ensure inventory is adequately stocked with supplies necessary for efficient operation.

Perform the sterilization of equipment and work area.

Perform minor and preventative maintenance on equipment and ensure equipment is properly stored after use.

Report equipment problems to Rehabilitation Director.

EDUCATION: Master’s degree with course study that meets the minimum requirements for the certificate of clinical competence in speech pathology required.
EXPERIENCE: One year experience as a speech therapist preferred.
PERSONAL JOB-RELATED SKILLS: Knowledge of speech therapy procedures and services. Effective oral and written communication skills. Familiar with operating computers and ability to utilize computer systems.
LICENSURE, REGISTRY, CERTIFICATIONS: Certificate of clinical competence in Speech Pathology from the American Speech and Hearing Association required.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties of the position require extended periods of standing and walking. Repeated bending, stooping, and reaching. Lifting up to 72 pounds and heavier lifting in transferring or supporting patients who may suddenly become weak or helpless. The ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
