Open Water Certified Lifeguard

About Kimama Miami
Kimama Miami is an Israeli-American summer day camp built on joy, belonging, connection, and growth. Our program combines classic camp energy with creativity, nature, movement, and social-emotional learning in a warm bilingual (Hebrew-English) environment.
We are seeking motivated, responsible, and vigilant Open Water Certified Lifeguards to help ensure the safety and enjoyment of all campers and staff during waterfront programming. This role is ideal for energetic individuals who are passionate about water safety, enjoy working with children, and thrive in active outdoor environments.
Responsibilities
- Supervise campers and staff during all waterfront activities at FIU Biscayne Bay Campus and Oleta River State Park
- Constantly monitor open water areas to identify potential safety hazards or distressed swimmers
- Enforce all waterfront safety rules, procedures, and emergency protocols
- Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies, including performing rescues, CPR, and first aid if needed
- Support waterfront activities including kayaking, paddleboarding, swimming, and water games
- Conduct safety checks of waterfront areas and equipment before and during activities
- Monitor equipment and report any maintenance or safety concerns to camp leadership
- Help maintain the cleanliness and organization of waterfront equipment and surrounding areas
- Communicate clearly with campers, counselors, and camp leadership regarding safety needs or incidents
- Assist in creating a fun, positive, and supportive camp environment where children feel safe and confident in the water
Qualifications
- Current Open Water Lifeguard Certification from a recognized organization required
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification required
- Strong swimming skills and ability to perform rescues efficiently
- Previous experience lifeguarding in open water, waterfront, aquatic, or camp settings preferred
- Excellent awareness, communication, and decision-making skills
- Comfortable working outdoors in summer weather conditions
- Ability to remain calm and act quickly in emergency situations
- Positive attitude and strong teamwork skills
Schedule
- Approximately 2.5 hours per week at FIU Biscayne Bay Campus (weekly day/time TBD)
- Wednesdays, June 17 and June 24 at Oleta River State Park from 9:30 AM–3:00 PM
Compensation
Competitive hourly compensation based on experience and certifications.
Pay: $20.00 - $26.00 per hour
