Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable, compassionate, and professional Day Program Driver to join our team. The driver will report to the care home at 7:00 AM each weekday, where they will be provided with the keys to a company 12 passenger van. Working alongside other staff members, you will safely transport clients to and from the day program and scheduled community activities, including the library, shopping centers, parks, recreational outings, and other approved destinations. Clients will also have a designated lunch break before returning to their scheduled activities. At the end of the shift you will safely transport clients back to their residences.This position requires someone who is punctual, patient, dependable, and committed to providing safe and respectful transportation for adults with developmental or intellectual disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate vans and other vehicles in compliance with traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations
- Maintain clear communication with passengers, team members, and dispatchers to ensure smooth operations and quick responses to traffic changes.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, including checking brakes, lights and signals
- Manage passenger behavior through effective behavior management techniques while ensuring a respectful environment.
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license
- Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, and state and local commercial driving laws.
- Experience working with children or individuals requiring special assistance is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities.
- Excellent defensive driving skills with a quick response to traffic changes and hazards.
- Knowledge of student discipline policies and behavior management techniques when working with young or special needs passengers.
