Job Summary
The General Accountant is responsible for managing daily accounting activities, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with accounting standards, and supporting month-end and year-end close processes. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle bookkeeping, including general ledger maintenance for our construction division
- Perform daily banking activities, including monitoring bank accounts, processing transfers, recording deposits, and reconciling bank statements
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations
- Record and manage accruals, including expense accruals, revenue accruals, and prepaid expenses
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Prepare financial statements and supporting reports for management review
- File and remit sales tax and other required regulatory filings
- Support internal and external audit processes
- Analyze financial data and identify discrepancies and recommend improvements
- Maintain organized accounting records and documentation
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and resolve accounting-related matters
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Participate in company events, as requested
- Complete additional projects and duties, as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or equivalent related experience
- 2+ years of accounting experience with a focus on account reconciliations and month-end close processes
- Knowledge of GAAP standards and standard accounting practices
- Experience with financial reporting and general accounting functions
- Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work both independently and collaboratively
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Windows, QuickBooks, Bill.com, Expensify and Square
- Experience with ERP systems preferably EPICOR or KINETIC
