Job Title: RN Pediatric Outpatient Clinic

Site: Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC) Primary Site; may also float to Four Corners Regional Health Center (FCRHC) and Dzilth-Na-O-Dith-Hle Health Center (DZHC)
Location: US Hwy 491 North, Shiprock, NM 87420
Duration: 6-month Base Period + 4 Option Periods of 6 months each
Credentialing / Onboarding Time: 6 to 8 weeks
Shift Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM 4:30 PM (8.5-hour shift / Day shift only)
No weekends, no holidays
Specific tour of duty directed by the Supervisory Clinical Nurse (SCN)
How Many Shifts Needed Per Month: Approximately 21 22 shifts per month per nurse (5 days/week)
Hours Per Contract Period: 1,040 hours per RN per 6-month period (~40 hours/week)
License: Current, valid, unrestricted RN license from a U.S. state or territory
Certifications (All Must Remain Current Throughout Contract):
Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association (AHA)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) American Heart Association (AHA)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) American Heart Association (AHA)
Education: Registered Nurse (RN) degree (as required for RN licensure)
Experience Required: Minimum 24 months of total nursing experience, with at least 2 years of pediatric nursing experience required
Special Skills Needed:
Basic computer/IT skills (ability to use IHS information technology systems)
Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English
Cultural sensitivity and awareness of American Indian and Alaska Native cultures
Ability to float to other nursing departments as needed
Familiarity with electronic health records and documentation
Responsibilities:
Admit, assess, and provide direct nursing care to pediatric patients ages 0 18, including physical exams, vital monitoring, developmental screenings, and lab/diagnostic interpretation
Administer vaccines, immunizations, medications (weight-based pediatric dosing), IV therapy, and assist with procedures (blood draws, treatments)
Develop and implement individualized care plans for acute illnesses and chronic conditions (asthma, diabetes, ADHD, allergies)
Educate and counsel parents/caregivers on growth, nutrition, safety, medications, mental health, and chronic disease management
Collaborate with pediatricians and interdisciplinary team on care planning; manage patient flow and care transitions
Screen for mental health concerns (e.g., ADHD) and provide family support during challenging health situations
Maintain accurate, timely documentation and medical records in compliance with HIPAA, Privacy Act, and IHS IT security policies
Complete all required competency verifications and weekly timesheets
Float to other nursing units/departments within the Shiprock Service Unit as needed
