Seeking a highly motivated and technology-focused individual to serve as an Adult Library Assistant at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh-Department of Workforce & Economic Development. The qualified candidate will bring positive perspective, strong service ethic and a flexible mindset to this lively urban environment by assisting patrons of all ages with a special emphasis on meeting the learning and information needs of adults.
Location: CLP-Main-WED, Pittsburgh, PA.
Work Hours: 25 hours per week; days, evenings and weekends required.
Compensation: $19.00 per hour

Education and Physical Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or;
- A minimum of four years of experience at the Employer’s facilities or in an equivalent public service role demonstrating successful application of customer service standards, as determined in the sole discretion of the Employer.
- The physical ability to bend, stoop, stand for long periods of time, push heavy book trucks, and lift heavy loads (25+ pounds);
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities & Experience:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- Experience working with children, teens, and/or adults in an urban setting preferred;
- Ability to navigate and interpret CLP policies and procedures;
- Strong computer skills, including the use of Office 365 products;
- Knowledge of current technological and workforce trends;
- Ability to work as part of a team; manage assignments and responsibilities effectively in a busy urban environment;
- Experience facilitating library programs and classes in person as well as in a virtual setting strongly preferred
- Experience with the ability to use and instruct on business, non-profit, job and career databases preferred
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting customers of all ages with information service, selecting and locating materials, and providing reader’s advisory services;
- Working in conjunction with the Library Services Supervisor and other Main Library staff to provide optimal service across age ranges;
- Help adult customers build digital skills by providing instruction and troubleshooting in one-on-one computer situations and in workshops with the goal of developing confidence and self-sufficiency in customers surrounding technology and the job search process;
- Providing an extremely high standard of customer service at every turn, internally and externally;
- Honoring the CLP Service Standards;
- Collaborating with staff and community members to achieve shared goals;
- Facilitating WED programming and classes: including but not limited to: Business, Job and Career, and Nonprofit
- Mentoring users of all ages within the Library;
- Assisting with day-to-day operations at the Main Library including public service shifts and collections;
- Support partnerships with other non-profits and business;
- Provide high standard 1:1 appointments in person and/or virtually;
- Responsible for JCEC space, including up keep and inventory, creating engaging displays;
- Support system-wide initiatives, programs, and services, and community outreach efforts, as directed by your supervisor

- PA State Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Criminal Records Check and Mandated Reporter Training upon offer of employment.
