Summary
The Wurster Construction Multi-skilled Carpenter is a tradesperson who performs a wide range of carpentry and interior construction activities on commercial construction (primarily healthcare) projects. This role contributes directly to the quality, safety, and schedule of projects by performing rough and finish carpentry, interior build-outs, and related tasks in accordance with project plans, specifications, and company standards. The Multicraft Carpenter works with a variety of construction materials and demonstrates proficiency with hand tools, pneumatic tools, power tools, and small machinery. This role requires established technical ability, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality carpentry work as directed by the Project Manager or Superintendent and in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and schedules.
- Execute a broad range of carpentry tasks including finish carpentry, trim work, door and hardware installation, interior wall framing, drywall installation and finishing, cabinet and stair construction, ceiling systems, flooring (tile and LVP), and demolition.
- Assist Superintendents and Carpenters with jobsite support activities including cleanup, debris removal, material handling, and organizational tasks to maintain productivity and schedules.
- Measure, mark, cut, and shape materials such as wood, plastic, and fiberglass to specifications while ensuring plumb, level, and square construction.
- Maintain a high level of workmanship and proactively identify and communicate quality or constructability concerns.
- Follow all OSHA / Wurster safety policies, client requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Properly use and maintain required PPE and report unsafe conditions or equipment.

- High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education or formal trade training preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a comparable commercial or residential construction role.
- OSHA 10 Certified
Physical Demands
- Ability to safely operate hand and power tools.
- Ability to lift and carry materials weighing 50 pounds or more.
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolding.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform bending, kneeling, crawling, and climbing.
Work Environment
- Daily use of required PPE including hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
- Work performed primarily in a downtown hospital but our crews focus on serving several downtown campuses. On rare occasions, this position will assist our Project Managers in other facilities in Marion County as well as surrounding counties.
- Exposure to construction noise, dust, fumes, and hazardous equipment.
- Work may occur in unfinished structures, temporary facilities, or controlled healthcare environments.
