The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior/Lead Mechanic to oversee the maintenance, repair, and reliability of our landscaping equipment and vehicle fleet. This is a hands-on leadership position for a professional who takes ownership of the shop, mentors junior technicians, and ensures that our crews always have safe, well-maintained equipment ready for the field.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain landscaping equipment including mowers, trimmers, blowers, skid steers, and other small engine and hydraulic equipment
- Service and repair diesel and gasoline trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance and develop maintenance schedules to minimize downtime
- Lead and mentor junior mechanics and technicians
- Diagnose electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems using diagnostic tools and equipment
- Maintain accurate service records, parts inventory, and maintenance logs
- Order parts and manage relationships with vendors and suppliers
- Ensure shop safety standards and compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations
- Perform welding and fabrication repairs as needed
- Respond to field breakdowns and coordinate emergency repairs
- Inspect equipment before seasonal deployment and prepare it for winterization and storage
Qualifications
- Five or more years of experience as a mechanic, with a background in landscaping, small engine, diesel, or heavy equipment preferred
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and diesel/gas engine systems
- Experience with commercial mowers, trucks, and trailers
- Valid driver's license required; CDL a plus
- Own hand tools required; company provides specialty and diagnostic tools
- Welding and fabrication experience preferred
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in a shop and outdoor environment in all seasons
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Prior supervisory or lead technician experience preferred
