Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse specializing in psychiatric care to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team. Duties
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including mental status examinations, vital signs, and physical evaluations to inform individualized care plans.
- Administer medications accurately, including psychotropic drugs, and monitor for adverse reactions or side effects.
- Implement evidence-based interventions such as crisis management, de-escalation techniques, and behavioral therapies tailored to psychiatric patients.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive treatment plans.
- Maintain detailed and accurate medical documentation within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Cerner or Epic, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Provide patient education on medication adherence, coping strategies, and wellness practices to promote recovery and self-management.
- Assist with procedures including suturing, IV infusion, catheter care, and sterile techniques as required in acute or long-term care settings.
- Support patients with developmental disabilities or dementia through specialized memory care and behavioral health strategies.
- Participate in discharge planning and case management activities to facilitate smooth transitions between care settings.
- Uphold infection control protocols and aseptic techniques during all patient interactions to ensure safety.
- Engage in ongoing professional development related to trauma medicine, emergency response procedures, and critical care practices.
Experience
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license with current registration in the applicable jurisdiction.
- Prior experience working in psychiatric or behavioral health settings is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Epic for documentation and patient management.
- Experience administering medications including injections and IV infusions within a clinical setting.
- Knowledge of psychiatric medications such as antipsychotics, antidepressants, and mood stabilizers.
- Familiarity with trauma medicine protocols at Level I or Level II trauma centers is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of mental health diagnoses using ICD coding systems (ICD-9/ICD-10).
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia is desirable.
- Critical care experience in ICU or emergency medicine environments enhances clinical versatility.
- Ability to perform physical examinations, vital sign assessments, and diagnostic evaluations efficiently.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality and privacy of patient information.
- Additional experience in hospice & palliative medicine or long-term care settings is beneficial for comprehensive patient support.
