Concord Market started in 2018 as a gourmet grocery store with a specialty in fresh restaurant-quality packaged food prepared onsite.
Our new market, located in the Stratton Student Center in the heart of the MIT campus, aims to deliver high-quality, exciting, fresh, and convenient food options to the MIT community and are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Food Service Cook.
Job Overview
Performs all functions related to proper food preparation and maintenance of the food service area. Ensures food quality and presentation and performs duties related to stocking and sanitation. All Concord Market on Campus jobs require ensuring a positive company image by always providing courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and coworkers. All positions must be performed following the team's and store's standard operating procedures. Further, employees must be prepared and able to perform the duties inherent in other job descriptions. All positions must strive to support Concord Market on Campus’ core values and goals, promoting healthy, delicious, local foods, and adhering to best workplace practices.
Responsibilities
- Prepares food items for customers both premade and to order items for the service counter.
- Prepares food items according to recipes to ensure quality and consistency.
- Fulfill coffee orders as orders come through
- Ensures that all prepared food items are labeled, dated, covered, stored, monitored for quality and freshness, and rotated properly.
- Monitors retail food levels and replenishes in a timely manner.
- Arrives at the workstation on time, appropriately groomed, dressed, and ready to work; works all scheduled shifts and attends required training and meetings.
- Provides excellent customer service, and addresses the needs of customers in a timely and effective manner.
- Maximizes sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising products.
- Follows and complies, or ensures compliance, with established procedures, including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices.
- Maintains a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment; maintains equipment following Concord Market on Campus cleanliness and safety standards; ensures walk-ins and freezers are clean and organized.
- Performs opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned; ensures accuracy of prepared food signage and pricing.
- Assist with Barista counter when needed
- Assist the downstairs kitchen when needed
- Immediately reports safety hazards and violations.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Chef or Upper Management.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Thorough product knowledge.
- Ability to follow a recipe.
- Good understanding of food production and fundamental cooking techniques.
- Good basic math skills.
- Strong to excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
- Ability to deliver information clearly and respectably to coworkers, customers, and vendors.
- Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions with customers, vendors, and coworkers.
- Ability to follow directions and procedures; effective time management and organization skills.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- In an 8-hour work day: standing/walking 6-8 hours.
- Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
- Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
- Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals.
- Exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), >90 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Ability to work in wet and dry conditions.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to use tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, and other heavy machinery.
- May require the use of ladders.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
