Role Summary
The Assistant Barn Manager supports the Barn Manager in overseeing daily barn operations and ensuring livestock receive consistent, high-quality care. This role assists with coordinating employees, monitoring animal health and well-being, maintaining clean and safe facilities, and ensuring daily tasks are completed efficiently and according to established procedures.
The Assistant Barn Manager will also provide day-to-day guidance to barn employees and help maintain smooth operations in the Barn Manager’s absence. This position requires strong livestock handling skills, organization, communication, and the ability to work effectively in a hands-on agricultural environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Barn Manager with overseeing daily barn operations and ensuring livestock receive proper care.
- Monitor animal health, behavior, and overall well-being and communicate any concerns as needed.
- Ensure feeding, watering, cleaning, bedding, and other routine animal care duties are completed properly.
- Assist with the safe handling and movement of livestock.
- Help maintain clean, organized, and safe barns, pens, equipment, and surrounding areas.
- Assist with coordinating daily work assignments and priorities for barn employees.
- Provide day-to-day direction, training, and support to employees on livestock handling, safety, and barn procedures.
- Ensure animal welfare, biosecurity, safety, and company procedures are consistently followed.
- Assist with maintaining accurate records and documentation related to livestock and barn operations.
- Identify and communicate animal care, equipment, facility, or operational concerns to management.
- Provide leadership and help oversee barn operations in the Barn Manager’s absence.
- Perform additional duties as assigned based on operational needs.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with livestock in a farm, ranch, barn, or similar agricultural environment.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Knowledge of livestock handling and general animal care practices.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays as needed.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements.
- Ability to safely lift and carry 50+ pounds.
- Ability to work around livestock, farm equipment, dust, dirt, odors, and varying indoor and outdoor weather conditions.
