Position Summary
Whitehall District Schools is seeking an enthusiastic and student centered educator to serve as the High School/Middle School Band Director. The ideal candidate will be a passionate instructional leader and child advocate who believes all students can achieve at high levels. This individual will lead and grow a comprehensive instrumental music program that includes symphonic band, marching band, jazz band, and festival participation while creating meaningful learning experiences for students in both the middle school and high school.
Essential Duties
- Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans aligned to district and state standards using effective instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of students
- Direct and manage middle school and high school band programs, including symphonic band, marching band, jazz band, concerts, competitions, and festival performances
- Create and maintain a positive classroom environment that promotes student growth, creativity, responsibility, and appropriate student behavior
- Monitor, assess, and communicate student progress while using assessment data to guide instructional decisions and improve student outcomes
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and administrators to support student success and program development
- Maintain classroom organization, music inventory, equipment, and instructional materials
- Explore and develop additional music opportunities and exploratory courses for students when appropriate
- Serve as an active member of the middle school and high school staff and perform other duties as assigned by administration
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Education
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate; certified in Secondary Music Education
