Full time position supporting middle school-age students with moderate/severe disabilities in the areas of academics, functional life skills, vocation and community-based instruction in a Public Day School setting.Responsibilities Include:Develop and implement academic lessons following Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and differentiate/modify those lessons according to students Individualized Education Plans. Create and implement modified and differentiated lessonsUtilize instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives including planning for individual, small, and/or whole group activitiesImplement behavior plans and other intervention strategiesCollaborate with appropriate staff and/or parents to develop an Individualized Education Program (IEP)Conduct developmental or educational evaluations and observations; write and present reports for team considerationConduct or supervise data collection, summarize results for student records and prepare written progress reportsEnsure required paperwork is completed and submitted according to their designated timeline Develop and maintain students portfolio assessment based on the curriculum and individual IEP objectivesUtilize data from the portfolio to be submitted as alternative testing for students required to take the MCAS.Assign tasks to support staff and review their daily work with students Communicate student progress to parents/guardians and serve as a liaison between parents and the schoolCollaborate and communicate with other professionals, including building administrators, related service providers, the Special Education Director, and consultants, to develop approaches that benefit each student to ensure that making effective progressProvide assistance for students transitioning to adult services where appropriatePreferred Skills:Knowledge of curriculum modification, assistive technology, augmentative communication and behavioral supportsExperience with behavior management/de-escalation strategiesPossesses a strong belief that all students can learn and be successful in schoolDemonstrates a mindset that focuses on assets & growth, as opposed to deficitsAbility to demonstrate competence in behavior management skillsWillingness to try various approaches, depending on student needsAbility to collaborate and communicate effectively with other special education staff and other colleagues in a professional mannerExcellent organizational and time management skillsUtilize data and reflection to plan for supports and interventionsAbility to seek resources and solutions to effectively solve problemsReports To:Building principal and special education team administratorDirector of Special Education & Special Education Coordinator
