SPS ARMED PATROL OFFICER
It is the goal of SPS to employ only the highest level of Security Officers in the private security industry. To ensure that SPS hires only the highest level of Security Officers, our starting salary is significantly higher then the current industry mean for Armed Security Officers. This allows SPS to have a greater applicant base for the selection of prospective employees. All candidates for employment must possess the MINIMUM following licensing and training requirements as outlined by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS):
- High School Diploma or a General Education Degree (GED) certificate
- BSIS Guard Registration License (w/ Certificate of Completion of BSIS 40-hour Power-to-Arrest (Level I, II & III) course
- BSIS Exposed Firearms License (w/ Certificate of Completion of the BSIS Exposed Firearms training course)
- BSIS Baton License (w/ Certificate of Completion of BSIS Baton training course)
- Certification in the use tear gas/chemical agents (pepper spray)
- Certification in the use electro-muscular devices (TASER)
- Certification in adult and pediatric First Aid/CPR
- POST Reserve Level III (PC 832) certification in arrest & firearms safety*
- A minimum of two (2) years armed experience in the military, law enforcement and/or private security field, with a minimum of one (1) year of full-time mobile-patrol experience working within the residential housing sector and/or business districts.
* Within 180 days of start of service with SPS (Professional development assistance available)
Starting pay for Armed Patrol Officers is $25.00/hour (cumulative); however, applicants who possess additional training and/or education are eligible for increases in the hourly cumulative pay rate up to a maximum starting pay rate of $29.00/hour (cumulative):
- POST Basic Academy certification = $1.00/hour
- Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice (or a related field of study) = $1.00/hour
- Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice (or a related field of study) = $1.00/hour
- Master’s degree in Criminal Justice (or a related field of study) = $1.00/hour
Upon successful completion of the initial 180-day probationary period, Armed Patrol Officers are eligible for up to a $2.50/hour (cumulative) raise, increasing the base pay rate to up to $27.50 - $31.50/hour (cumulative) based on training and/or education incentives.
In addition to the training and licensing requirements, all prospective candidates must successfully clear the following pre-employment tests and checks:
- Oral Board Interview
- State/Federal criminal history check (no felony convictions)
- DMV records check (no moving violations or at-fault accidents in the previous 3 years or any DUI convictions in the past 10 years)
- Prior employment reference check
- Random drug screening
SPS Officers work within a dynamic and rewarding environment in a team based atmosphere. In addition, employees receive the following benefits after the completion of orientation and probation:
- 3/4 12-hour split schedule (grave shifts ONLY) - up to 60 hours per week required
