Job Summary
Syman Inc. is looking for a detail-oriented AutoCAD Technician and Environmental Design Writer to support construction-related environmental permitting and compliance documents. This role is ideal for someone who can turn project information, plan markups, regulations, and field input into clear AutoCAD exhibits, SWPPPs, ESCPs, permit forms, and other well-organized technical documents.
The strongest candidate will be comfortable drafting in AutoCAD, writing and proofreading technical environmental documents, researching compliance requirements, and coordinating with Project Managers to keep deliverables accurate and on schedule.
Duties
- Prepare and revise AutoCAD/ GIS drawings for environmental permitting documents, including Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), Erosion and Sediment Control Plans (ESCPs), site maps, detail sheets, and construction compliance exhibits.
- Write, assemble, proofread, and update SWPPPs, ESCPs, dewatering plans, inspection-support documents, permit packages, and other environmental compliance documents.
- Review project plans, construction drawings, markups, permit requirements, and client-provided information to produce accurate and compliant documents.
- Coordinate with Project Managers to clarify scope, track deadlines, incorporate markups, and deliver revisions in a timely manner.
- Research local, state, and federal stormwater, erosion control, and environmental compliance requirements as they apply to active construction projects.
- Complete and submit permit-related forms such as Notices of Intent, Low Erosivity Waivers, and related regulatory documents as assigned.
- Create, maintain, and improve document templates, drawing templates, standard details, checklists, and internal skill assessments.
- Maintain organized project files and support quality control through careful review of spelling, formatting, drawing consistency, and regulatory completeness.
Skills
- AutoCAD or GIS experience is required; candidate must be able to create, edit, label, and organize plan sheets from project information and markups.
- Strong technical writing, proofreading, and document organization skills.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PDF tools, file management, and web-based research.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines, prioritize work, and stay accurate while working under time-sensitive project schedules.
- Ability to read and interpret plan sheets, markups, specifications, regulations, permit language, and project notes.
- Professional communication skills and ability to work closely with Project Managers, field staff, clients, and regulatory contacts when needed.
Preferred Experience
- Experience writing or assisting with SWPPPs, ESCPs, erosion control plans, stormwater documents, dewatering plans, or other environmental compliance documents.
- Experience in construction, civil site work, environmental compliance, erosion control, stormwater management, construction management, or a related field.
- Bachelor’s degree or coursework in environmental science, construction management, civil drafting/design, engineering technology, GIS, or a related field is a plus.
- GIS experience or ability to work with aerial imagery, site mapping, project boundaries, drainage features, and plan overlays.
- Experience with ERP, project management, or document-control systems.
- Knowledge of local, state, or federal stormwater and construction permitting requirements is a plus.

Pay: $29.00 - $34.00 per hour
