Candidate ideally will posses knowledge and experience in preliminary optometric testing. The position also involves selling, repairing and adjusting eyewear, as well as explaining vision and medical benefits to patients.
- Patient Preparation:.Taking patient medical histories, explaining procedures, and ensuring patient comfort before exams.
- Preliminary Testing:.Conducting basic vision tests like visual acuity, color vision, and depth perception.
- Assisting with Exams:.Preparing equipment, assisting with procedures like retinal imaging and visual field testing, and recording findings.
- Medication Administration:.Administering eye drops and other medications under the optometrist's supervision.
- Contact Lens Management:.Assisting with contact lens fittings, teaching insertion/removal techniques, and providing care instructions.
- Real-Time Scribing: Entering the doctor's verbal findings, diagnoses, and treatment plans accurately into the EHR during the exam.
- Chart Preparation: Reviewing upcoming patient files, ensuring intake paperwork is complete, and queueing relevant diagnostic data
Administrative Tasks:
- Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate patient records, updating electronic health records, and managing appointment schedules.
- Equipment Maintenance: Cleaning, maintaining, and troubleshooting ophthalmic equipment and ensuring proper functioning.
- Inventory Management: Ordering and maintaining supplies, including contact lenses.
- Patient Communication: Answering patient questions about eye care, medications, and eyewear.
The ideal candidate must be able to work efficiently and accurately and be able to multitask. The candidate must possess excellent communication skills and be able to work effectively as a member of a team and be able take direction.
