Job Overview
We are seeking a highly qualified and dedicated Pharmacist in Charge to oversee pharmacy operations, ensure regulatory compliance, and lead our pharmacy team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive clinical and operational expertise, with a strong commitment to patient safety, healthcare quality, and team leadership. As the Pharmacist in Charge, you will serve as the primary authority on medication management, pharmacy policies, and patient care standards, ensuring the delivery of exceptional pharmaceutical services within a dynamic healthcare environment.
Duties
- Lead and supervise the pharmacy team, including pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, fostering a collaborative and compliant work environment.
- Oversee medication dispensing processes, ensuring accuracy, safety, and adherence to all state and federal pharmacy laws.
- Manage inventory control, including procurement, storage, and compounding medications in accordance with USP 797 guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with pharmaceutical regulatory standards such as HIPAA, drug regulation policies, and clinical confidentiality protocols.
- Provide expert clinical guidance on patient assessment, medication therapy management, pain management, immunizations, and pediatric care.
- Maintain proficiency in pharmacy software systems (PIS), EMR/EHR systems, and pharmacy information systems to optimize workflow efficiency.
- Conduct staff training on aseptic techniques, IV infusion procedures, and basic life support to uphold high standards of patient safety.
- Monitor pharmacy operations for accuracy in medication administration and inventory management while ensuring adherence to healthcare compliance standards.
Requirements
- Valid licensure as a registered pharmacist with current state and federal pharmacy licenses.
- Demonstrated experience practicing as a pharmacist within hospital or acute care settings is essential.
- Critical care experience combined with knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology is highly desirable.
- Prior experience managing pharmacy teams in LTC (Long-Term Care) or community pharmacy environments preferred.
- Strong understanding of drug regulation policies, pharmaceutical regulatory compliance requirements (including USP 797), and healthcare laws such as HIPAA.
- Proficiency with pharmacy software systems (PIS), EMR/EHR systems, and inventory management tools.
- Certification in basic life support (BLS) and immunizations is required; additional certifications in IV insertion or infusion are advantageous.
- Excellent client communication skills with a focus on patient service and education.
- Knowledge of clinical confidentiality policies and practicing within HIPAA guidelines is mandatory.
