Job Summary
Onyx Specialty Papers, a specialty paper manufacturing company located in Lee MA, is looking for a Director of Shared Services to fill a full-time position. The Director of Shared Services will oversee and integrate our core operational pillars: Human Resources, Information Technology and Finance. As a key leadership figure in our 140-person company, you will ensure alignment of daily back-office execution with the business’ objectives and strategic plans. This role requires an agile, hands-on leader who can mentor specialized functional managers and individual contributors, unify cross-functional workflows, and ensure strict regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
Departmental Leadership and Process Integration
- Guide and evaluate your four direct reports to maximize efficiency, performance and professional development
- Build and optimize workflows connecting HR, IT, and Finance to eliminate organizational friction (e.g. cross departmental onboarding/offboarding)
- Oversee business contract negotiations for software licensing, insurance policies, third party consultants (auditors, legal, accounting, etc), and office equipment
- Collaborate with other members of the Leadership Team (President, Director of Manufacturing and Technical and Quality Director) to develop and executive strategic business plans
Finance and Accounting Oversight
- Partner closely with Controller to review organizational budgets, monitor cash flow trends, and deliver clear, actionable financial data to the leadership team.
- Ensure entreprise-wide compliance with tax regulations, external financial audits, and local/federal statutory mandates.
- Serve as point person for banking relationships.
Human Resources Strategy
- Support the HR Manager in refining competitive compensation bands and benefit offerings, growing recruitment pipelines, and maintaining standard operating procedures.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels to achieve business objectives, lead annual succession bench strength planning processes, and champion organizational and individual development initiatives
- Promote a positive work culture through deployment of best communication practices, and maximizing associate engagement
IT and Systems Infrastructure
- Collaborate with the IT staff to routinely evaluate, update, secure and monitor the company’s hardware and software systems
- Govern standard business data protection guidelines, cybersecurity best practices, and emergency systems disaster recovery protocols
- Develop and manage the annual IT budget, as well as the multiyear IT investment plan to ensure business needs are being met cost effectively
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Experience: 7+ years of progressive professional experience across corporate operations, finance, and/or HR environments.
- Leadership: 3+ years managing direct, specialized reports in a small-to-mid sized business/organization.
- Functional Versatility: Outstanding capacity to navigate fluidly between long-term planning and granular operations problem-solving
- Tech-Savvy – Practical familiarity with software ecosystems (i.e Microsoft Office Suite) and enterprise resource planning software (i.e. Epicor) and comfortable learning about new IT tools
- Communication – Superb empathetic and verbal communication skills suited for executive level and frontline associate coaching
- Education – Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance, Human Resources, or an equivalent combination of career experience
Pay: $120,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
