Position Summary
The Lumber & Equipment Rental Associate is a dynamic, hands-on role critical to both our yard and rental operations. You will be the go-to expert for helping customers select building materials, staging and explaining rental equipment, and managing digital transactions. This role balances physical, outdoor yard work with technical proficiency in point-of-sale (POS) and specialized asset-management software.
Key ResponsibilitiesDepartment Operations (Lumber & Rental)
- Equipment Management: Load and unload heavy machinery efficiently and safely. Prepare, clean, and test rental equipment before and after customer use.
- Customer Instruction: Walk customers through equipment operations, safety protocols, and starting procedures for various rental tools.
- Material Handling: Load lumber and building materials into customer vehicles and stage orders for delivery or pickup.
- Driving & Deliveries: Safely operate a truck and trailer setup to deliver lumber and smaller machinery to jobsites.
- Forklift Operation: Safely operate a forklift in the yard and warehouse to move heavy stock (comprehensive on-the-job training provided).
Digital & Checkout Systems
- Rental Software: Efficiently utilize Renterra on both desktop and tablet interfaces to manage bookings, track equipment status, and process check-ins/check-outs.
- Point of Sale (POS): Accurately handle cash, credit, and account transactions on the store's retail POS system to check out customers.
Customer Service & Store Support
- Provide a positive representation of Stetson Brothers Ace Hardware by proactively greeting and assisting customers.
- Deliver personal, customized service based on the premise of "amazing every customer, every time."
- Assist with receiving, checking in, and stocking merchandise across the lumber yard, rental department, and sales floor.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety in the outdoor yard, rental bays, and indoor stock areas.
Qualifications & Experience
- Age/Licensing: Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record (required for operating delivery vehicles, towing trailers, and forklift certification).
- Computer Literacy: Proficient with technology; comfortable navigating specialized software platforms on both computers and mobile tablets.
- Experience: Formal retail experience is preferred. Practical experience using or working with lumber, building materials, hardware, or small engines is highly valued.
- Trailer Towing: Prior experience driving with and backing up a trailer is a strong asset.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 80 lbs. frequently.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions typical of yard operations.

Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
