Job Summary
We are seeking passionate and detail-oriented Historic Preservation Carpenters, Glaziers, and Painters to join our dedicated team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for restoring, maintaining, and preserving historic structures with precision and care. Responsibilities
- Carefully assess historic structures and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints to guide restoration efforts.
- Perform detailed carpentry work including frame carpentry, trim carpentry, plastering, and masonry to restore original features.
- Apply specialized painting techniques such as structural painting, industrial painting, and restoration coating using brushes, rollers, spray guns (including airless paint spraying), and conventional spray methods.
- Prepare surfaces meticulously through construction surface preparation techniques like sanding, cleaning, caulking, and priming to ensure optimal paint adhesion.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for repairs, fixture installation, concrete finishing, and masonry work.
- Conduct color theory assessments and visual color comparisons to match original hues accurately during painting projects.
- Follow safety regulations rigorously by wearing respiratory protection and adhering to safety protocols on construction sites.
- Interpret schematics and technical drawings accurately while working on renovation projects that preserve the historical integrity of structures.
- Collaborate with team members on remodeling projects involving stucco application, window glazing, fixture installation, and structural repairs.
- Maintain detailed records of work performed, materials used, and project progress in compliance with preservation standards.
Requirements
- Proven experience in construction estimating, blueprint reading, and interpreting technical drawings related to historic preservation or renovation projects.
- Demonstrated expertise in carpentry (including frame carpentry), glazing (window glazing), masonry, plastering, and general construction site experience.
- Skilled in various painting techniques such as residential painting, commercial painting, industrial painting, brush painting, roller painting, construction spray painting, and coating application.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools (including airless paint sprayers), scaffolding use (ladder use), and concrete finishing equipment.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations including respiratory protection protocols and safe handling of hazardous materials.
- Knowledge of color theory for accurate restoration matching; experience with visual color comparison is a plus.
- Ability to interpret schematics or blueprints related to historic structures; familiarity with renovation processes is preferred.
- Basic math skills for measurements and estimations; experience with remodeling or handyman tasks is advantageous.
- Excellent attention to detail combined with a passion for preserving architectural history through meticulous craftsmanship.
