A global steel trading company with office in Midtown Manhattan and sales offices in 20 locations in the United States and Mexico is seeking a Tax Manager for their executive office in New York City.
Summary
The Tax Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of indirect tax (sales/use, property) for the company. Primary responsibilities include, but are not necessarily limited to, GAAP reporting, multi-state and local tax filings, tax related information requests from our partners, audit representation, and ad hoc research projects as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Preparation of state and local sales/use tax returns, personal property tax returns, annual reports and other miscellaneous filings (e.g. – business license fees) for the company on a timely basis.
- Present innovative tax planning ideas, supported by pro forma data, to Senior Management and implement such ideas that receive management approval
- Support for income tax audits.
- Handle all miscellaneous federal, state and local tax correspondence.
- Handle sales and property tax audits.
- Other Ad hoc projects and tasks as requested.
Required Competencies
- 10+ years of experience in a corporate indirect tax function, experience in the leasing industry is preferred.
- Agile and Adaptive: Must be able to work in a quick paced environment and effectively manage / prioritize multiple tasks or issues.
- Accountable and Well-Intended: Strong research and communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills are critical in this team oriented organization.
- Business Acumen and Strong Analytics: Strong analytical and financial modeling skills with the ability to make tax projections.
- Proactive and accountable, creative and cautious, naturally curious.
- Team Oriented.
- Experience with Avalara tax software is strongly preferred.
Education / Experience
- Required: Bachelor’s degree, in Accounting
