American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical/Oncology unit position at a major teaching hospital in West Virginia, requiring at least 2 years of experience and telemetry skills.

Work in a 29-bed Medical Surgical/Oncology unit at a Level IV Trauma Center and major teaching hospital (COTH member) with 838 total staffed beds
-
Adult patient population includes medical and surgical oncology, palliative care, urology, and telemetry patients
-
Patient ratios are 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights
-
Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7p–7a on weekdays with every other weekend required

36- or 48-hour contract options available

Floating within scope may be required to meet facility needs

Charting is performed in Cerner
-
Active WV or Compact RN license required; candidates with a pending RN license may be considered

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

Current BLS certification required

ONCC or ONS certification required
-
Proficiency in telemetry, central line draws, port access, blood administration, PCA pumps, bone marrow aspiration assist, and Pleurx chest tubes required

Chemotherapy administration experience preferred but not required for strong candidates

Flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); a documented medical allergy on record from an allergist or physician is the only accepted exemption

Must provide at least 2 manager or charge nurse references from within the past 2 years for consideration

Driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

Responsibilities include oncological nursing care, palliative care support, and family education on oncological processes

Blocked schedule requests will be accommodated when possible
-
Holiday RTO requests should be limited to no more than 1 of the 3 major holidays
-
Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to qualify; candidates residing 75–99 miles away may be submitted for facility approval

COVID vaccine is not required

Former permanent employees of this health system must have a 2-year gap from their last day of permanent employment before being eligible to work as a traveler
