Position -
Rebuild Haywood is a Hurricane Helene Relief program of the First United Methodist Church of Waynesville. RH provides housing repairs and rebuilds as well as holistic, wrap-around case management to help those without the means to fully recover from Helene. The Assistant Disaster Case Manager (Asst. DCM) position is an entry-level case manager working under the supervision of the DCM Supervisor and assisting the DCM Department. The Asst. DCM is responsible for guiding clients through the stages of their recovery with an encouraging and compassionate presence.
The Asst. DCM will assist with client eligibility screening and intake, record-keeping and data-tracking, oversee a case load, and support the broader DCM Department operationally. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to work empathetically with individuals experiencing loss and uncertainty. The ideal candidate is passionate about the mission of Rebuild Haywood, highly organized, empathetic, flexible, and appreciates a hybrid work environment.
Responsibilities -
- Timely and professional response to phone calls, voicemails, emails, and texts to intake phone number and email address.
- Complete trauma-formed screening and intakes as the first point of contact for individuals seeking assistance. Completing detailed and accurate intake paperwork with eligible applicants.
- Providing referrals to ineligible clients or clients outside of our geographic range.
- Keeping up-to-date records of all clients.
- Communicating high level or emergency needs of clients with the team and collaborating to reach solutions.
- Frequent and regular in person or virtual communication with clients, and keeping diligent notes on all interactions.
- Participate in meetings and training as required/applicable.
Qualifications -
- Must have access to a working phone, computer, and internet.
- Knowledgeable or able to learn about resources available in the area.
- Compassionate and patient, able to create a safe space for clients to tell their stories free of judgement.
- Highly organized, with strong communication skills. Able to prioritize cases by degree of need.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and client privacy.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations, customer service, nonprofit organizations, social services, or disaster recovery efforts is preferred but not required.
- Experience working with Google Suites and Microsoft.
- Priority hiring to individuals directly impacted by Hurricane Helene.
Pay: $20.00 per hour
