Responsibilities
- Deliver hands-on patient care including bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility assistance using proper manual handling and safe lifting practices such as Hoyer lifts and patient transfer methods.
- Monitor vital signs and observe patient conditions to report changes promptly to nursing staff.
- Assist with medical procedures such as catheter care, medication administration under supervision, and basic life support techniques like CPR.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation within Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality.
- Support patients with specialized needs including dementia care, Alzheimer’s care, memory care, behavioral health challenges, and working with individuals with developmental disabilities or disabilities.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams across various settings such as hospitals (including ICU and trauma centers), nursing homes, assisted living facilities, outpatient clinics, or home care environments.
- Follow infection control protocols using aseptic techniques during patient interactions and procedures to prevent infectious disease transmission.
- Assist with patient transfers utilizing appropriate equipment like Hoyer lifts or other transfer methods for safe mobility.
- Engage in ongoing training related to emergency medicine, trauma response (Level I & II Trauma Center experience), pediatric (PICU) or geriatric care (geriatrics), hospice support, and other specialized areas to enhance your caregiving expertise.
Skills
- Proven experience working with diverse patient populations including seniors, pediatrics, individuals with disabilities or behavioral health needs.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and basic nursing principles relevant to medical-surgical and post-acute care settings.
- Ability to perform vital signs measurement accurately and demonstrate competency in CPR and basic life support procedures.
- Excellent communication skills for caregiving interactions and effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience working in high-pressure environments such as emergency medicine or urgent care settings is highly valued.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
- Physical stamina for heavy lifting tasks and manual handling required during patient transfers or mobility assistance.
- Flexibility to adapt to various clinical environments including hospital inpatient units, outpatient clinics, home & community care settings or long-term care facilities.
