We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Full-Time Human Resources Manager to support our team at Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant in Ellicott City, MD. The ideal candidate is passionate about empowering team members, enhancing workplace engagement, and partnering with leadership to achieve organizational goals.
The Human Resources Manager responsibilities include supporting the mission of Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland (LSMMD) by providing professional human resources services to team members and managers. This includes key HR functions such as benefits, HRIS, onboarding, team member relations, performance management, compliance, and training support.
As part of our caring and purpose-driven organization, you’ll play a vital role in advancing our mission and making a meaningful impact in the lives of our residents and team members. This position follows a Monday- Friday schedule from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and offers a hybrid work arrangement.

What You'll Do as a Human Resources Manager:
Administers employee benefits, including health, dental, vision, FSA, disability, and 403(b) retirement plans.
Coordinates open enrollment and ongoing benefit enrollments, acts as liaison with brokers and benefit providers.
Manages and tracks team members leave of absence in compliance with organizational policy and federal/state regulations.
Oversees HRIS functions including performance management, applicant tracking, benefits administration, ACA compliance, and payroll/HRIS data entry.
Serves as primary contact for team member relations, addressing questions, complaints, conflicts, and workplace disputes.
Advises and coaches managers on policy interpretation, performance issues, conflict resolution, and disciplinary action.
Participates in investigations and focus group interviews as needed.
Develops and analyzes HR reports related to turnover, staffing, and workforce planning.
Assists in the creation and revision of HR policies, procedures, and forms.
Manages tuition reimbursement and employee scholarship programs.
Coordinates unemployment claims and supports managers in hearing processes.
Maintains employee files and records in accordance with legal and regulatory standards.
Conducts internal and external compensation reviews and participates in salary surveys.
Plans and coordinates employee recognition events and wellness initiatives.
Supports onboarding, orientation, and supervisory training programs.
Engages in continuing education and represents HR on internal/external committees and task forces.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
3-5 years of experience in human resources management, including HRIS and benefits administration.
Solid understanding of employment laws and HR best practices.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experienced with HR Information Systems (HRIS).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment in handling sensitive and confidential matters.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and tactfully with individuals at all levels, including residents, staff, families, external vendors/authorities, and the public.
Strong attention to detail in writing, proofreading, managing priorities, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, demonstrating a cooperative, respectful, and compassionate approach to colleagues and resident care.
Skilled in the use of standard office equipment and technology.
Maintains professionalism, composure, and a positive attitude when managing challenging situations.
Physically able to move throughout the workday, including travel between campus locations and lifting items up to 10 pounds using safe handling practices.
May be necessary to assist with resident evacuation during emergency situations.
Complies with organizational health and safety requirements, including vaccination policies or valid exemptions.
