JOB
The Seasonal Shop Assistant provides support to municipal operations by assisting with inventory management, equipment handling, basic equipment maintenance tasks, and general shop organization. This position plays an important role in ensuring that equipment, tools, materials, and supplies are readily available and maintained to support efficient delivery of public services.
The position is seasonal/temporary in nature. This is a part-time position from the months of April to November, number of hours per week can vary. Minimum 5 up to 40 hours per week. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
FUNDAMENTAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with receiving, organizing, and stocking supplies, tools, and equipment

Maintain cleanliness and organization of shop and storage areas
-
Support basic maintenance tasks, including equipment cleaning, oil changes, tire rotation, tire and brake replacement, inspections and other fluid replacement

Diagnose minor issues and assist mechanic with repairs

Deliver and retrieve materials between facilities and job sites
-
Assist staff with loading/unloading equipment and materials
-
Maintain inventory records and report shortages or damaged items
-
Operate light equipment and vehicles as needed

Follow all safety policies and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

Provide general support to shop mechanic and field staff as assigned

Perform related work as required.

Ability to perform routine physical labor in a shop or outdoor environment

Entry level engine and vehicle maintenance experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
90% of the time is spent walking, standing, talking and hearing. 10% of the time is spent kneeling, sitting, stooping, and crouching. Carry 50 lbs. or less, 80% of the time. 100% of the time must be alert and aware of the conditions within the shop.

Office equipment (computer, telephone, copy & fax machines), digital camera, measuring devices, automobiles and trucks. Hand tools, small to very large wrenches, sockets, hammers, power tools, electric hand drills, drill press, saws, grinders, air powered hand tools and impact wrenches and construction equipment.
