JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the building principal and/or program supervisor, work with students to provide appropriate behavioral and educational support while maintaining a safe and positive learning environment. Monitor and support student behavior, implement behavior intervention strategies, and assist with daily instructional and non-instructional needs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Successful experience working with children and youth with behavioral needs. Experience following written plans and oral/written instructions. Ability to read, write, and speak English. Perform routine tasks as directed.
Skills: Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills for working with parents, staff, and students. Ability to collaborate with others on shared outcomes. Capacity to learn, reason, and exercise sound judgment, especially in stressful situations. Computer skills are necessary for producing documentation, reports, and records.
Physical abilities: Ability to observe and respond to student behavior, including situations requiring physical restraint or redirection. Must be able to transfer, position, or escort students safely as needed. Must be physically able to support students in emergency situations such as evacuations or accidents.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Must have completed two years of study (minimum of 32 credits) at an accredited postsecondary institution, or hold an associate degree or higher, or have a passing score on the ParaPro Praxis test.
Knowledge of: De-escalation strategies and safe restraint techniques. Principles of child development and learning styles. Behavioral intervention strategies and implementation of behavior/crisis plans. Effective instructional strategies to support student engagement and development
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and/or experience working with behavioral intervention techniques and plans strongly desired. Ability to identify reasons for problem behavior and intervention strategies that will address the behavior. Mandt trained or willingness to complete training.
