We are a precision CNC machine shop seeking an experienced CNC Programmer / Setup Machinist to join our team.
We specialize in challenging, close-tolerance prototype and low-volume precision machining, with a strong focus on quality rather than high-volume production.
This is a hybrid programming and hands-on machining position. The workload will vary based on current jobs — some weeks may involve more CAM programming, while others may involve more machine setup, prove-out, troubleshooting, and machining.
We offer a relaxed, team-oriented shop environment and are looking for someone who enjoys challenging and varied machining work.
Responsibilities
- Create and modify CNC programs from customer-supplied STEP models and engineering drawings
- Program primarily CNC milling operations
- Program 3-axis, 3+2, and 4th-axis machining operations
- Develop new programs from scratch as well as modify existing programs for repeat jobs
- Set up and operate CNC mills
- Take programs from CAM through machine setup and prove-out
- Select appropriate tooling, workholding, speeds, feeds, and machining strategies
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
- Machine close-tolerance prototype and low-volume components
- Make program and machine adjustments as necessary
- Troubleshoot programming, tooling, setup, and dimensional issues
- Perform first-piece and in-process inspection using precision measuring equipment
- Assist other machinists with programs, setups, and troubleshooting when needed
- Work with engineering and quality personnel to successfully complete jobs
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of CNC programming and/or advanced CNC machining experience
- Strong CNC milling background
- CNC machine setup and prove-out experience
- Experience programming CNC equipment using CAM software
- Ability to work from 3D models and engineering drawings
- Strong understanding of GD&T
- Experience with close-tolerance precision machining
- Strong understanding of tooling, workholding, offsets, feeds and speeds, and machining fundamentals
- Ability to troubleshoot machining and programming issues
- Ability to work independently and maintain a high level of quality
Preferred Experience
- ESPRIT and/or Autodesk Fusion experience
- Haas CNC mill experience
- 3+2 and 4th-axis programming experience
- Experience programming new prototype components from scratch
- Aerospace or defense machining experience
- Experience taking jobs from model/print through programming, setup, prove-out, and finished part
- CNC lathe experience, particularly Mori Seiki, is a plus but not required
- Sinker EDM experience is a plus but not required
About the Position
The ideal candidate is a well-rounded CNC programmer/machinist who is comfortable both at a programming workstation and on the shop floor.
We are primarily looking for a strong milling background. While additional lathe experience is valuable, it is not a major requirement for this position.
The strongest candidate will be able to receive a customer STEP model and print, create or modify the necessary CAM program, understand the tooling and setup required, and then assist with or independently perform setup and prove-out.
We understand that not every candidate will have experience with every machine or software package we use. Strong machining fundamentals, programming ability, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to producing quality work are more important than checking every box.
We offer a relaxed working environment where quality comes first and employees have the opportunity to work on challenging, varied precision components rather than repetitive high-volume production.
Pay: $28.00 - $35.00 per hour
